Apple Spelt Squares

Got Apple Sauce? Make Apple Spelt Squares.
Snacks for kids are probably one of the most challenging things about feeding your family local. You can always bring along some fruits and veggies, but there isn’t any reason your children can’t enjoy a baked good too. Skip the sugar laden cereal bars from the grocery store and make a batch of these.
What You’ll Need:
- 1/2 Cup Milk
- 1/2 Cup Spelt Flour*
- 3 Teaspoons Almond Flour
- 1/2 Cup Oats
- 4 Tablespoons Apple Sauce*
- 1 Tablespoon Maple Syrup*
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/2 Teaspoon Sea Salt
- 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 1/2 Cups Extras- I used Local Dried Cranberries and Chopped Pecans
*Wendy’s Mobile Market carries local spelt flour, maple syrup, apples and dried cranberries
Let the mix soak for 15 minutes.
I used an 8 x8 pan, lightly greased and floured.
These are not a very sweet square, to make them sweeter, just add more maple syrup.
I like that along with the cranberries, apples and grains these squares offer some healthy protein from the pecans and almond flour.
Freeze them individually and they are ready to grab and take along on any outings or adventures you have planned for the day.
